AudioFlux: A Proposal for interactive Visual Audio Manipulation

Abstract

AudioFlux is a proposal for a creative manipulation interface respectively sound design. The spectral data within the frequency domain is construed as liquid material. Due to its flow across a surface it can be directly disturbed via multitouch or tangible interaction. With the aid of a fluid Simulation and a resynthesis afterwards, an audio signal is shaped. This work shows off a wide variety of creative manipulation techniques for the frequency domain.

Abstract

Für die Bedienung von Baggern hat sich die Steuerung durch zwei Joysticks etabliert. Diese stellt einerseits hohe motorische und koordinatorische Anforderungen an die Bediener und kommt andererseits angesichts neuer komplexerer Werkzeuge an die Grenzen der mit ihr realisierbaren und kontrollierbaren Freiheitsgrade. Das Bedienkonzept „Mobile HMI“ formuliert einen funktionalen und gestalterischen Ansatz einer mobilen handgestenbasierten Fernsteuerung für Hydraulikbagger.

Towards Glyph-based Visualizations for Big Data Clustering

Abstract

Data Analysts have to deal with an ever-growing amount of data resources. One way to make sense of this data is to extract features and use clustering algorithms to group items according to a similarity measure. Algorithm developers are challenged when evaluating the performance of the algorithm since it is hard to identify features that influence the clustering.

Visualizing Uncertainty in Flow Diagrams: A Case Study in Product Costing

Abstract

Business Intelligence applications often handle data sets that contain uncertain values. In this work we focus on product costing, which deals with the average costs of product components -- that vary significantly based on many factors such as inflation, exchange rates, and commodity prices. After experts provide the uncertainty information for single items, decision makers need to quickly understand the cost uncertainties within the hierarchical data structure of the complete product.

A Zoomable Product Browser for Elastic Displays

Abstract

In this paper, we present an interaction and visualization concept for elastic displays. The interaction concept was inspired by the search process of a rummage table to explore a large set of product data. The basic approach uses a similarity-based search pattern – based on a small set of items, the user refines the search result by examining similar items and exchanging them with items from the current result.

Abstract

A novel generation of (e.g. touch-driven) applications leads to a new universe of interaction paradigms and a growing need for simple, inspiring and smart interfaces. A system intended for non-experts should only present information the user needs to solve his task, instead of confronting him with the large and complex underlying data structure. In this paper, we focus on users wanting to perform a product search driven by a vague information need.

Additional On-Demand Dimension for Data Visualization

Abstract

In this paper, we present a concept to interactively extend an 2d visualization by an additional on-demand dimension. We use categorical data in a multidimensional information space applied in a travel search scenario. Parallel sets are used as the basis for the visualization concept, since this is particularly suitable for the visualization of categorical data.

Support System for TNM Classification of Laryngeal Cancer using Bayesian Networks

Abstract

Most solid tumors are staged according to the TNM classification characterizing the extend of the primary tumor (T), regional lymph nodes (N), and distant metastasis (M) and have major influence on treatment decision and prognosis. Insufficiencies, in terms of under- and overestimations of the TNM stage, may lead to suboptimal treatment decisions and could deteriorate patients outcome. Using Bayesian Networks (BN), decisions can be modelled based on guidelines, studies and clinicians’ expertise.

Abstract

In diesem Beitrag wurde das Projektmanagement im Bereich der Forschung und der Entwicklung thematisiert. Vor dem Hintergrund von innovativen Ergebnissen wurden die Rahmenbedingungen behandelt, die einerseits die Forschungsförderung und andererseits die Projektarchitektur betrifft. Unter welchen Bedingungen sind Forschungsprojekte zwischen der Wirtschaft und der Wissenschaft möglich? Wie sieht ein Antrag auf Förderung aus? Wie läuft ein Projekt ab? Welche Vorteile ziehen Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft aus gemeinsamen Forschungsprojekten?
